Snowbasin Resort 2002 Olympics | Earl’s Lodge

For the 2002 Winter Olympics at Snowbasin Resort, we were honoured to build the handcrafted log work for three major mountain lodges. As one of only four North American companies pre-approved to bid, we were awarded the log construction for the main day lodge—Earl’s Lodge—and, as our craftsmanship became evident, two additional lodges higher on the mountain.

Earl’s Lodge, a 45,750 sq. ft. centerpiece located near the finish line of the men’s downhill events, is one of the most impressive structures we’ve ever created. This two-level lodge features six stone fireplaces, restaurants, lounges, offices, and expansive dining areas. Inside, 40-inch diameter spruce log columns support 50-foot trusses made from massive 24-inch logs, all tied together with a dramatic grid of large-diameter log ceilings. The exterior combines 18-inch half-log siding with stonework for a warm, alpine feel that perfectly complements its surroundings.

The scale of the project was enormous—Earl’s Lodge alone required 21 semi-trailers of finished log work. All of the oversize spruce logs were harvested from dead-standing timber in our home province of British Columbia, ensuring exceptional quality without cutting live trees. The result is a breathtaking Olympic venue that showcases the beauty, strength, and sustainability of handcrafted log construction on a global stage.
